Sebastian Ruzycki began studying guitar at the relatively late age of seventeen. He became highly motivated to learn when his father taught him several Polish pop songs that were popular in the ‘70’s.
Sebastian studied under several rigorous programs in Texas with many influential guitarists. He is grateful to his numerous mentors which include Robert Guthrie, Tom Johnson, Yoban Quijano and Bryan Burns. Each guitarist has greatly influenced and helped shape him into the player he is today. Sebastian began studying the guitar at Mountain View College and later transferred to the University of North Texas. He graduated with honors and received a Bachelors of Music with an emphasis on guitar performance. Sebastian continued his studies when accepted into the prestigious Meadows School of Music at Southern Methodist University. He was awarded the Meadows School of Music Graduate Scholarship and a Graduate Teacher’s Assistant position.
Sebastian is an active participant in guitar competitions and festivals; Including, The Guitar Foundation of America, The Lone Star Guitar Festival and the Guitar Symposium. Sebastian has won several awards academically and competitively. Such as, The Alice Jones Award for music, third place in the Mountain View College Festival.
Most recently, Sebastian has finished his graduate studies at Southern Methodist University where he was awarded a Masters of Music degree. He currently is teaching at Mountain View College as an adjunct professor of music. Additionally, he has begun writing a technique book for beginner and intermediate guitarists.
